Founded in 2007, Agobun is a Lille-based roots reggae sound system inspired by local scene stalwarts like Chalice Sound and Coptic, as well as legendary UK dub sounds. Over the years, the crew has built a strong underground reputation, initially as resident sound at local sessions and later performing at some of Europe’s largest reggae sound system festivals (Dub Camp, Rototom, Reggaebus, IDG, Zion Station...). Agobun is dedicated to delivering a high-quality sound that combines power with clarity, while creating a distinctive atmosphere for each session.
In 2016, they started recording, mixing, and pressing up their own dubplates, drawing heavy influence from the 90s roots sound, and eventually launched their own label.
Today, the label boasts over ten singles and four LPs from the Agobun Riddim Section’s productions. Their music has earned widespread appreciation among reggae, dub, and sound system enthusiasts. Their tracks have been featured by top selectors such as Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti, Mark Iration, Mikey Dread, and many more.
About the label
2018 marked the first release with vocalist Vivian Jones (Rock Dis Ya One, Wickedness), and the collaboration has continued since then (Fire Bun, Final War).
In 2020, new connections were made with singer Tenastelin (The Journey) and "dub master" Gussie Prento (Special Drop).
The label also released Kamel’s French-language Dub Poetry project (Trésor Révélé) and a digi-dub LP (In the Midst of Fire).
In 2021, the track Bound To Fall by Lille-based duo Wise Rockers made a significant impact within the sound system circuit, being played by sounds such as Jah Shaka, King Original, and OBF.
In 2022, the dubplate Play On, dubbed by Gussie P, recorded and produced at Agobun studio, was played at every session by Jah Shaka, who sadly passed away in April 2023, leaving the dub community orphaned. A new version of the track was released in October 2023 on the Chalice Music label, and it has been a huge success with roots and dub enthusiasts.
